Hi,
The 2.1 GB HDD (a Quantum Fireball 3.5 series)
on my NetServer E30 just died. Looks like I
can't find HDD of that series anywhere I looked.
Could anyone plz suggest alternative choices
for a HDD? (I tried a Seagate Barracuda, but
wouldn't work) I have a 50-pin SCSI card in the
server. Does the # of pins affect kind of HDD
I can use ? I would be very grateful if anyone
can help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Any SCSI drive, 5400 rpm should do fine. The biggest issue is HEAT in these old servers. They were not meant to hold fast heat producing drives, and if you put a 10K drive in there the fans cannot remove the heat fast enough, the result would be that the drive would fry its magnetic surface in less than 6 months.

Re: HDD for NetServer E 30
Thanks Ben,
Yes, my HDD got fried about 2 months ago,
in the hottest 4 days of summer ever, where
I live. From next summer on, I'll make sure
the NetServer is inside the refrigirator
while I run it. Thanks for the info.
