HDD Replacement

Our supplier already replaced all the HDD, SCSI/RAID cards, power supply. However, same problem comes out after completing all the installation.

Finally, I asked the supplier to bring another set of HP server tc2120. Then as I tested, AGAIN same problem comes out.

I guess there are some uncompatibilities between the hardware and Windows Service Packs.

Anyways, my supplier has given up for this problem and decided to replace to other model.

My conclusion is that this problem occurs even when I clean-install, install the drivers from HP Support, and install all the critical and security updates from Windows.

HP Server tc2120
Windwos 2000 Server

Is there anyone who encountered problem with "HP server tc2120" on disk error?
My server is still BRAND NEW!!!

My current system is "Windows 2000 server sp4"
I patch all the updates from "Windows Update" except for "Journal Viewer" and ".NET Framework" (as of Nov.5,2003)

There is the System Event log:

Source: Disk
Category: None
Type: Error
Event ID: 7
Description:
The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block.


This error seems to start appairing after installing some updates. However, because I did not archive the old files, I have only option to re-install the system all over again...

Hi,

It really does sound like a hard drive issue, but is sounds like you have tried everything and are still getting the same issue.

I will give one warning, SP4 is not supported by HP and has been known to cause some weird issues when used on Netservers. Maybe your problem is another example of this. Did you ever try rolling back from SP4 when you had the original problem?

Did you ever contact HP for assistance with this issue? Microsoft has documented the Event ID 7, source DISK issue (it is not vendor or model specific). Did you try any of the following?

1. Verify the SCSI driver was not overwritten by any update/service pack

2. Run CHKDSK/F

Did the problem occur specifically when you went from Spk3 to Spk4?

Have you ever tried to change the SCSI cable with terminator?

I advise you to slow down the trans rate from 160M to 80M in Adaptec SCSI Disk Utility(press Ctrl+A to get in)

I agree with Terri. That was my first thought also, the driver was overwritten by MS when the SP was applied.
