HP NetRAID 1M

We are having a disk I/O bottleneck on our newly installed SCO OPENSERVER 5.0.5 [HP LC2000 SERVER] when certain applications are running. Specifically when we run an online cpio to a backup directory on the HP NetRAID 1M or even a separate SCSI hard drive the system slows down to a crawl during the backup.

Could the AMIRD/NetRaid driver be the problem or how do I find a better driver - or am I looking in the wrong area to improve the performance of the server ?
thanks for any help.

Re: HP NetRAID 1M

netraid 1M didn't use the write back cache because there is no battery in case of power failure, this can corrupt data,
Try to put the cache policy to write trought to see if the performances inprove.
In this case, you have to move to a supperior netraid controller like 2M

Re: HP NetRAID 1M

the default cache policy is set to write through.
We are thinking it is an O/S problem,

one site told me that the SCO Unix HP technicians said to disable the ami raid monitor, /etc/idrc.d/amird [amirdmon] which I have not yet tried. Earlier in the week I came across that suggestion but there was a disclaimer that said it could create other problems so I didn't try that option.

Unfortunately I'm off for the next two weeks on vacation in Hawaii so I won't be able to communicate back to you ... great helpers until then. I will let an associate in on this thread and if he can he will keep the solution ball rolling. Thanks for all your help past..present and future.

Re: HP NetRAID 1M

NIke,
Sorry for mistyping, to check cache issue, try to set it as write back, this is more efficient, but less protective is case of power failure
