Keyboard Lock Button on LC3 Netserver

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post - I have aquired an LC3 Netserver which I have 'resurrected' and upgraded as much as can, Twin 550mhz CPU, 512meg Ram, 128mb PCI GeForce 4, running Windows XP Professional.

I have one (hopefully) very simple question - The keyboard lock button located under the power button. How does this work ? At the moment, pressing it does nothing, it is configured through a software application ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Regards

Re: Keyboard Lock Button on LC3 Netserver

Hi Mark,

the Keyboard lock button will blank the video and disable keyboard/mouse access only if it's setup this way in the LC3 server setup. If it is not configured, it will not do anyhting at all.

- press F2 at boot to enter the setup
- choose the Security TAB
- select the Power On password (mandatory)
- enable the features below like keyboard
lock, video blanking...
- save the config and reboot

When you then press your keyboard lock button when the server is online, you will lock the keyb /mouse and blank video and the keyb lock LED comes on. To unlock it , just type the password you entered in the setup.

At each boot you will have to supply it also, you will see a small windows after the self test, once you enter the right password keyb/mouse and video are back available.

Basically this is a hardware security feature that can be used on top of your OS protection features to lock the screen/console, this was part of the mindset for the world where these machines were developed for.

If the keyboard lock is on then you can't even power off the server, it will make a sound if you try to do so and only power off if you enter the password. If you press the power button again it will stop the sound and will not power off if you supply the password , it will just return you control over keyb/mouse/video again as if nothing happened.

I think this answered your question.
