LC3 MOBO Chipset/Processor Compatibility
I don't want to pay large sums of money to upgrade my lc3 processor, does anyone know what p3 processor i would need to get, does it matter or is all i need a p3 with a heat sink and then get the hp fan kit?(i.e. is there a major difference between the official hp kits and regular chips?)
thanks
thanks

Re: LC3 MOBO Chipset/Processor Compatibility
Hi Matthew,
maybe You should try to obtain a second LC3 from ebay. These older models are not expensive, You get a compatible processor and maybe even some additional memory in the same deal.
Other approaches are possible but not guaranteed to work. LC3 supports Processors up to 550MHz with 100MHz FSB but microcode for newer steppings as available outside of hp suppliers might not be available.
Hope that helps

Re: LC3 MOBO Chipset/Processor Compatibility
Matthew,
Try to get a CPU with a stepping as close as possible to the one you have. Failing that you WILL get a Microprocessor code mismatch error on boot. If you can get windows to install however you should be OK. (this is rather hit and miss I know, but if you can get another processor cheap it might be worth trying)
