LH Pro Video Upgrade Problems

I've been trying to upgrade the video on an LH Pro, but have been running into a few problems. I placed a very basic Diamond Viper PCI video adapter in slot 8 and disabled the on-board video. On boot-up, the system displays "Diamond Viper 3.12" and then hangs. I tried it in slot 6, with the same results. I've run the configuration utility, and it would appear that you need to define the slot that the card is going to go into prior to actually installing the card. Unfortunately, the configuration program wants you to supply a .CFG file for the new board, and I have so far been unable to find a .CFG file a PCI video adapter on any of the major driver web-sites. Am I completely mistaken about what I'm doing? Does anyone have any help or suggestions. Thanks-

Re: LH Pro Video Upgrade Problems

hi
the card doesn't have to hang the server, you only have to enter in Eisa Config Utility, see the card that should apear in the configuration and do exit and save config, after this the system is tuned, You need to give a .cfg file if you ad a eisa card, if you haven't one you can use a generic one that you can found in the cd Navigator, Be also sure tu have last version of the bios, (if you install last version of bios, you need also to download last ECU to accieve the bios of the server.

Re: LH Pro Video Upgrade Problems

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure that I followed what you were saying. When I did install the board, and then attempt to boot, the system immediately hung. I was not able to get to the EISA config utility. When I remove the board, boot, and run the utility, of course the system doesn't see anything other than the boards that are already installed. When I tried to add another board by using one of the .cfg files that were on the utility disk or navigator cd, the system would only use slots 1-4, not one of the pci slots. Evidently, the cd and disk don't appear to contain cfg files for pci bus video devices.
By the way, you stated, "You need to give a .cfg file if you ad a eisa card". Are you saying that a .cfg file is not necessary for a pci device? Or is a pci device considered an eisa device? It could be that my utter stupidity regarding hardware devices is causing most of my problems, but I think that I've been working the problem through properly, with alot of help from you folks. Again, maybe a litle clarification regarding your last post would help clear up my confusion.

Re: LH Pro Video Upgrade Problems

right you do not need .cfg file for pci card, these are only need for eisa slots.
if the system hang when you insert a video card in your sistem, probably ther is a uncompatibility between this card and the pci bus.
run the eisa config utility and run view edit detail, try to adjust the PCI Bridge Timers, and adjust the Video configuration at the beginning on dual display, once everything work , you can desable the integrated video and put the right data in video config.
hope this can help

Re: LH Pro Video Upgrade Problems

Have you tried all PCI slots? I would think you would need to try something older, nothing with more than 2MB of video memory on it.
