LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

I have a LH3000 that takes at least 20 minutes to boot. I do get an error 0B00-0A: Missing Microcode Update data block for CPU on boot. I've tried upgrading BIOS to latest (4.06.33 PT) which flashed from floppy with switch 7 on. None of the firmware will upgrade (error x203) from the Navigator CD. Any clues? Thanks.

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

Also after the attempted BIOS/Firmware update from Navigator CD, I receive a 0080-51: NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure along with the 0B00-0A error on boot. Thanks.

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

Unplug the system for 5 minutes. Remove any processors that have been added to the system. only the processor in slot 1 should be in the system. At that point plug the system in and attempt to update the BIOs from here:

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

Jeff,

If you are failing the bios flash you can try to force the bios flash with some switches. Look at this post from a few months back to help out.

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

Thanks for your replies. There is only 1 processor, in Primary Slot 1, with, I assume, a terminator in the Second slot. I previously attempted the BIOS update with lh3000bios_us.exe (21-Mar-02 version), switch 7 on, booting from the disk image. It successfully updated to 4.06.33 PT. The BIOS/FW update on the Navigator CD is an older version, but it displays ??? for some of the FW versions. When I try to flash it using the CD, the FW updates fail with 0x203, but the System BIOS update is successful. Throughout all of this, booting is extremely slow (20+ minutes). Thanks.

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

If unplugging the system for 5 minutes and then updating the BIOS doesn't fix it, then you need to contact HP support for a new I/O Board.

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

I unplugged the unit overnight. Upon powerup this morning, I was greeted with the Microcode error. I booted with the Navigator CD in. After ~20 minutes, it came up with a screen that said it successfully updated BIOS. The Navigator menu option "BIOS and Firmware Update" has the following:
-Name, Version on Server, Version on CD
-System BIOS, 4.06.31 PT, 4.06.31 PT
-Video BIOS, 3.097, 3.097
-LVD SCSI BIOS, 4.14.04, 4.14.04
-SE SCSI BIOS, 2.57.0S.3, 2.57.0S.3
-MMC, ???, E.10.36
-FPC, ???, B.10.35
-SDR, ???, 10.29
-HSSC, ???, A.10.22

-Integrated HP NetRaid, E.01.04, E.01.04

Firware updates to:
SDR seemed to work
HMC failed with x203
MMC failed with x203
FPC failed with x203

Just to confirm, this sounds like a hardware problem with the I/O board?

Thanks for your help!

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

Actually, there is another thing to try. If there is a top tools card in the system, you need to make sure it is up to date. Go here and makesure you are using the latest firmware:

http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix62319.html

Also, unplug anything plugged in to the serial ports. Try the update. If it fails again, remove any PCI cards in the system and try again.

Re: LH3000 Long Boot / Errors

The box is sitting on top of my desk right now. There is nothing connected to it, except keyboard, mouse, video, and power. All slots are empty. I'm assuming there is not a Top Tools board installed, since the Inventory didn't list it and since there are no other boards in the system. I don't think the CPU is a HP original, I didn't see HP on it anywhere. Should I? Thanks for you help!
