Re: lh3000 memory upgradation

Suresh:

Yes,PROBABLY - PC133 ECC SDRAM - but if you then have problems & want HP to work on the box (unlikely as it is a bit old) you'd be best to take the "non-HP" memory out first.

Situation is that HP memory will work / be made to work by HP: get non-HP memory and you are "on your own" if you have any problems. I find www.crucial.com a good place to start..

Re: lh3000 memory upgradation

Hi Rajeev,

Yes you can get 3d party memory to work, but I would advise against it.

Non-HP memory tends to be very problematic in HP servers. When you use 3d party memory it usually isn't a case of IF it is going to fail, it is a case of WHEN it will fail.

You may get random reboots, system freezes and whole other myriad of problems.

Try checking www.pmount.com. They have authorized HP memory for your server at a very reasonable price. Just be sure (if you chose to listen to my advice) to ask them fior the actual HP memory and not the generic version. I beleieve they sell both.

Hi,

Of course you can use thrid part memory on your server but if you use it you can not get support by HP.

Just buy kingston memroy. It works fine.

Re: lh3000 memory upgradation

The LH3000 is probably out of warranty or will be soon (you get 3 years parts and labor with the LH3k). But, HP should continue to provide phone support for the product until the end of its support life (typically 5 years after the last one rolled off the line).

But, if you have any problems at all, the first thing the phone support tech will request you take the system down to "base" ("Base" is the minimum, HP-supported config). This involves removing all unsupported hardware (such as video cards, sound cards & non-HP CPUs & RAM) & getting the system down to a minimum amount of RAM & CPUs.

Depending on the issue you are having, tech support may be flexible about what they want you to remove; but, generally 3rd party RAM is the first thing they will ask you to remove since it has been known to cause very strange behavior when it fails.
