I got a call today from a site I installed a netserver LH4 last summer. They got a message during reboot saying one of the logical drives failed. Now the server doesn't boot up, it gets a message saying "operating system not found".
I went into the diagnostics for the raid and it found a bad drive on "A-01".
So....I don't see any red lights on the disks, what does this mean? How can I fix this? Do I change a disk?
I don't work on netservers too much, forgive my lack of knowledge concerning these servers.
Thank you,
Oskar

SolutionWhat is the ID # on that A0-1?
If you know the ID # pull that drive out and restart the server and see if it is going to boot to the OS.
(The drive ID# on LH 4 is as follows
If Rack Mounted Left to right 0, 1, 2, 3, 8, 9
If Pedstal(or non rack mounted) bottom up 0, 1, 2, 3, 8, 9
This will be able to help you out which hard drive is the failed one phsyically
If you are able to boot to the os make a good back up of you data, if you have any to backup, and try reseating the drive that was failed. If the drive is good it might start rebuilding.
If you are still getting NO OS found, come back
What OS are you having on this Box?
How many drives do you have?
What raid level do you have? Raid 0, Raid 1 or RAID 5 or other?
Good Luck

.......this is a pedestal, so I guess it's 0

this is winNT4, sp6a
How many drives do you have?

What raid level do you have? Raid 0, Raid 1 or RAID 5 or other?

Re: logical drive failed, netserver LH4
Still U did not get the drive ID # A0-1 is not the drive ID # (A0-1 means it is the second array member drive as A0-0 will be the first one)
1. Reboot the server
2. Hit CTRL + M (when U the message saying exprienced users only ... press CTRL + M) on Post
3. Selecet Object then Phsyical drive
4. In the next screen you should be able to see the drive ID # and A0-1 side by side
(the drive ID # will be to the left of the A0-1)
(If the server is up and running right now and you have netraid assistant Run netraid assistant and the number in bracket right next to the green disk sign is the drive ID #)
Thsi should give you how to identify the failed drive physically
Good Luck

Re: logical drive failed, netserver LH4
OS may be able to be boot by removing fail drive. Other drives are sometimes affected by bus hung of fail drive.
Please remove after checking fail drive by Express Tools.
LH4 and LH3 do not turn on red to fail Drive.
