LP1000r nic stop responding

I have an LP1000r (windows 2000) connected in a 3Com SuperStack II (3300) which is (LanA) connected to a 3Com superStack III on the DMZ port and (LanB) connect to a private LAN on a HP Switch. The ports open on the DMZ are 21, 80, 443, 3389. I have a Web Site on the LP1000r which is working fine but...

The problem : Sometimes, (not at the same time every days and not every day and sometime more than one time in a day), The network card on the LP1000r seems to stop responding from the internet but is still responding from private LAN. To make the server back online I desactivate and then activate the card (connection). I don't know if the problem is Hardware or software. (Some other servers are connected to the DMZ and works fine but no other LP1000r)

To resolve the problem i tried to:
-Reinstall Windows 2000 from scratch (SP and fix and...)
-Switch DMZ and Private LAN
-Change network cables
-Change port on the switch

Any idea will be appreciate

Re: LP1000r nic stop responding

Nicolas,
install addon network card, and we'll see if it will behave the same way. If yes, the it's not the problem of the LP1000r card, but software or LAN problem, if not, then card's or its drivers

Re: LP1000r nic stop responding

Nicolas,

Make sure to install the Intel driver and Proset utility and run diagnostics on the NIC. Also confirm that the setting on the switch matches the NIC. Are they both set to autosensing or is one locked in and the other is autosensing?

Download the driver and utility here:
http://h20004.www2.hp.com/soar_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix51734en_US.html
Driver: MS Windows 2000 HP 10/100tx LAN Driver for Windows 2000
5.40.17

and Proset:
MS Windows 2000 Pro Set II Configuration Utility for HP 10/100TX (Windows 2000)
4.92.13
11-Sep-02

This should help!

Re: LP1000r nic stop responding

Thanks for your fast answers i really appreciate.

I installed a new card on the LP1000r (a USB one because it's a 1U) with new drivers. The same problem happens yesterday night and this morning. I tried to connect to the server through another server in the DMZ while the problem occurs and it works fine. So the problem is probably between the switch and the firewall. But the lp1000r is the only server that is not working???

After that I installed new drivers for the NICs and ProSet II as Greg suggested and I forced NIC on the LP1000r 100Mb Full.

I'm going to wait to see if the problem will be back or not and i'll give you feedback as soon as possible.

Thanks again

Re: LP1000r nic stop responding

Nicolas,

If you force the Nic to Full, then make sure you also have the switch port set to full on the switch. That can cause problems if your NIC and switch are on different settings.
