Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
Anyone has experience on creating Mirror Disk (RAID 1) on NetServer LH 3000?
I have two 18GB harddisks on my server. I used NetServer Netvigator CD to configure RAID 1 before. After installing Windows 2000 server, only one harddisk (Disk 0) can be seen in "Disk Management" Panel of "Computer Management" Window.
I tried to scan disk, but another harddisk is not found.
When I checked the "Properties" field of Disk 0, Device Type showed "Unknown".
Is it normal?
Any idea would be appreicated.
Keep Working :|

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
you have build a raid one with two 18 gb hdd, so your logical disk capacity is 18 gb.
In disk administrator you have to see only one hdd of 18 gb capacity, nothing other.
in netraid assistant you can check if your raid is still redundant, but even it is degraded in the O.S. point of wiew, it is always 18 gb.

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
May I say that if I want to configure and see RAID 1 (Mirror) on Windows 2000, I cannot configure it with NetRaid Assistant?
Be happy :)

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
the fact is that you are creating a raid 1 hardware, in other word the netraid card manage all the disk and show at the O.S. a "virtual disk".
The O.S. manage this virtual disk like a hard disk, so if you have only a Logical disk,(no mater if build with one hdd or 5 hdd) you will found in disk manager only one disk.
different is if you instal a software raid 1 through disk manager.
to check the hdd you can install on your system NETRAID ASSISTANT that you can found in internet or on your cd NAVIGATOR in periph>netraid>nt>us>setup.

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
I would like to ask a further question about RAID 1.
After I use NetRAID Assistant to create RAID 1 on NetServer, I cannot use "Disk Management" of Windows 2000 to view Mirror (RAID 1). If one of harddisks fails, how can I do to recover it?
Any idea would be appreciated.
Go ahead :\

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
In case of h/w mirroring if one hdd fails u just have to insert the other hdd and it starts rebuilding on it's own provided u have enabled "autorebuild" option in the netraid assistant window.

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
the tool to use is the netraid asistant, with this tool you can suppervise your raid and can detect if one hdd fail, you can also rebuild a failed hdd or run the consistency check .
this software is a HP software and you need to install it.

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
May I ask a question more?
I am using NetRAID Assistant A.02.02. I find "Rebuild" on "Phyical Drv" menu bar. If I need to rebuild my failed harddisk, I just need to do it with NetRAID Assistant on Windows 2000 without rebooting?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Mirror (RAID 1) Problem
correct, you just need to start rebuild without rebooting the server, take in mind that if you try to rebuild a failed hdd without replacing it, check in the hdd proprieties to look if are present media errors or predictive failures, if nonof this kind of errors are present, you can try to rebuild you failed hdd, this operation verify all the raid integrity and if rebuils finish, you will see all your hdd in green and logical disk redundant.
if one of these messages occur, replace the hdd online(it is a hot swapp) and then rebuild the new hdd in the same way.
