SolutionDefinetly you need a VRM for the new processor you are going to add. (I am Assuming you are going to add a second processor).
The second processor you have to buy has too be the same exact type like what you already have even the cache has too be the same. In general has too be identical to what u have other wise it might not work got you.

Re: Need VRM when adding CPU to LC3
How many different VRMs are there. I gather that number you gave me is a HP number, do other ones work, do I have to have HP?

Re: Need VRM when adding CPU to LC3
I fon't think it is a good idea to add none HP parts as you might have run in to many issues because of that. I highly recommend to buy HPs part# that I gave you on my previous post.
If you find my answers helpful I would appreciate if you can assign a point for my effort.
Thank you

Re: Need VRM when adding CPU to LC3
Pentium II SLOT 1 400MHz CPU, 512MB Cache, 100MHz FSB/2.0V S1.
Is this the correct CPU for an LC3?
Cheers

Re: Need VRM when adding CPU to LC3
It is highly to flash the BIOS to the latest ver 4.06.38PQ. You can download it from this link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=15811&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50443〈=en&cc=ca&swEnvOID=54#326
Download the file and double click the download it will creat a bootable disk(It is a disk Image)
Then boot the server from that floppy and floow th on screen instruction
Once the flash is complet on the first reboot hit F2 to get in to the BIOS and hit save the default and hit f10 to save and exit
The server should work like a charm
Cheers

Re: Need VRM when adding CPU to LC3
Don't listen to them. Only the Intel spec codes must match, but Intel have never had a conflict on a same speed processor yet.
And yes you need the VRM.

Re: Need VRM when adding CPU to LC3
I never saw it mentioned, but just be sure that if you are upgrading to a Multiprocessor system, you will likley have to upgrade the HAL in your OS to support multiple processors. In Windows, single processor support is set by default during install if you only have one processor in at the time.
The process is easy, and you should have no problem finding it at Microsoft.
