Netraid-1si problem.
I have a NetServer Lpr (PIII/550) with a Netraid-1si controller + 2x18.2gig drives.
The systems running slackware linux (9.1->current).
The server has been sat on my desk for a number of weeks booted up, but doing nothing.
Twice now, the netraid alarm has triggered, and a reboot has found both drives in FAIL state. Making them online and checking the consistency shows no errors, the physical drive properties also show no errors.
Has anybody any ideas what might be causing the adapter to be failing both drives?

Re: Netraid-1si problem.
Hi Paul,
It could for for various reason that the hard drives failed.
However, check all this as a precaustion
1. Check the FW ver on the netraid controller and if it is not latest update it (The latest FW for netraid 1Si is F.02.07)
You can download the latest FW from this link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=18328&prodSeriesId=50457&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=COL3587&locBasepartNum=ns-12653-1&os=Cross+OS&tech=Firmware++Storage+Controller
2. Make sure u have the latest driver forr the Operating system you are running. The latest driver can be downloaded from this link by selecting the operating system you are running
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=18328&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50457&submit.y=9&submit.x=2〈=en&cc=us
3. Boot the server in to CTRL + M to access the netraid express tools and check the physical drive properties of both the hard drives for any errors
here is how u check the properties of the drive in netraid express tools
Object/Physical drive/Select the drive ID and press F2 to get its property

Re: Netraid-1si problem.
probably the cause is the disk backplane that is failing. in fact, both disk are put in a Fail status because they do not appear to the Netraid. And I suppose this appear only at boot time/
Usualy after a few reboot you will be able to see them and selecting the disk configuration everythink go right.

Re: Netraid-1si problem.
amhakassa,
1. The firmware was outdated (0.2.2), so i've
updated it this morning.
2. Im using the Linux Kernel (2.2.16)'s MegaRAID driver, so this should be fine (afaik)!
3. Checked beforehand, after a failure (and normally) no errors are apperaring on the device properties for each drive.
Marino,
The drives are failing while the systems booted up, rather than at bootup, rebooting keeps the drives in a fail state, but both drives are consistent with each other (It's a RAID1 array), and making them online again and rebooting solves this.
It's only occured twice in a few weeks, and at both times the system was sat there doing nothing (possible a hourly/daily/weekly cron, but other than that zilch).
I'll see how the new firmware goes.
Many Thanks,
Paul Edwards
