NetServer 5/133 LC (LC Plus): Win 2K Server?

Has anyone successfully installed W2K svr on an LC Plus?

The problem is that there aren't any drivers (on the hp website) for 2000, and the NT4 driver for the AIC-7770 SCSI controller causes a Blue-screen-of-death (Stop D1: driver IRQL not less or equal).

Solution: disable the on-board SCSI & put in a PCI card?

Second question: is the D5013B (NetServer LAN card) supported in this machine? It causes the system to hang on startup under NT4, but maybe this is because the NT4 installation has got a little corrupted over the years...

Appreciate your input, anyone!

Chris

Have you tried using the default win2k driver for the AIC-7770? This should work.

No, the D5013 is not supported in this box. You need to lookfor part# J2973A

Thanks, Theo -- when I let the W2K installation run (no F6 to specify driver) it didn't detect the SCSI, so I assumed no driver for this card. Didn't think of looking for it in the list of available drivers! Will try. -- Chris

Re: NetServer 5/133 LC (LC Plus): Win 2K Server?

Thanks Theo...

There is unfortunately no driver for the AIC-7770 provided by Win2K. The Adaptec controllers that are supported are the AHA-2920/2905, 151x/152x/AIC-6x60, a54x/164x, 294x/394x/AIC-78xx, 294xU2/AIC-7890, AIC-789x/3960.

Let's say I wanted to install a PCI expansion card SCSI controller, is the P3413A supported in the LC Plus? If not, does anyone know which is?

Thanks again -- Chris

Re: NetServer 5/133 LC (LC Plus): Win 2K Server?

The ultra3 based controllers won't be supported in this system, and I doubt it will work at full speed due to changes in PCI standards.

I should have looked here sooner to save you some frustration but this OS isn't supported on the server:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpn11940&locale=en_US&prodSeriesId=50450&prodTypeId=1535

The only SCSI controller I found that is compatible is an EISA Fast SCSI-2. Part# D2078B, but this is probably very hard to find. I suggest installing NT4.

Re: NetServer 5/133 LC (LC Plus): Win 2K Server?

Looks like we are going to have to fork out for a new server -- the whole idea was to run (another) W2K server to back up the existing Domain Controller -- I need to reinstall the DC but can't take the users down for that length of time, so we have to have at least DHCP & DNS running. And I can't find any useful info on transferring the DHCP database from a W2K server to an NT server .

I wasn't able to access the website you referred to here but I was told by an HP support engineer (who referred me to these forums) who mentioned that W2K is not supported. It's a crying shame -- a wonderful server, reliable & has given not one problem in probably 6 years. So it's a little slow by today's standards -- but it works!

Thanks for the good feedback!
