Re: Netserver LC 3 HDD replacement

Hello Martin,

The SCSI Controller in the LC3 is not able to work with a 36gb U320 disk
the 9gb HD are "only" UW scsi single ended...
With Max SCSI Transfer: 40MB/s(Ultra Wide)

Re: Netserver LC 3 HDD replacement

Drack,

There is a document regarding HP U3 hdd compatability here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpn14963&locale=en_US&prodSeriesId=50443&prodTypeId=15351

The server originally supported up to an 18gb hdd w/ PN# D5039A which you might be able to buy for the LC3 from http://www.pmount.com ** I have no affiliation with pmount.

You can also try your luck w/ ebay.

Ciao,

Re: Netserver LC 3 HDD replacement

The LC3 and older Netservers were configured as a Single-Ended SCSI bus and not Low Voltage Differential bus, and therefore require SE drives not LVD drives. All new hard drives are by default LVD drives.
The first support for LVD was in the NetRAID 1Si controller upgrade accessory.

Re: Netserver LC 3 HDD replacement

It is true that only the HP Ultra-Wide SE drives tested in the LC3 are supported by HP. Depending on the drive, you may be able to enable force single-ended. This may or may not get the drive to work. Basic steps:

1. With the full Seagate model of the drive, go to the Seagate web site.
2. Find the documentation for this drive, specifically the jumper settings.
3. Look for a jumper/switch to "force single-ended". Enable this setting.

Good luck!
