NetServer LC - please help! :-(

Hi, ok I have a NetServer LC 5/100, I really want to reset the CMOS and have searched the knowladebase for a howto...found one and it says to turn ON the Clear CMOS switch...but my server doesn't have one? It only has switches like "Save configuration", and I think something like "Lock configuration"...and such...could someone please help and provide me with specific instructions on how to clear the CMOS for this specific server model (like perhaps instead specify the switch ID/# I need to utilize for this instead)? Pleeease help me! :-( Thanks!

Re: NetServer LC - please help! :-(

Hi John,

pls change switch 3 (Config Valid) from position to erase the CMOS.

While in the OFF position the config will be erased when you power on the server and it should be visible also in the POST message.

Re: NetServer LC - please help! :-(

Hi John,

Look on the system board, above the slot for the processor board. There is a bank of 8 DIP switches labeled SW1. By default, they are all on except for switch 6. Switch 3 is labeled Config Valid. Move this switch to the Off position, power up the server, and wait for the message telling you to power off and move the switch back.

After you've done this, you will need to boot to your EISA Configuration Utility (ECU) disk. Normally, there is one inside an ESD sleeve inside the server but if you can't find it, you can download one here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=15542&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50440&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54

After you boot to the disk, save the config and exit the utility.

Let us know how it goes,

Sorry Kris,

I didn't mean to repost the same answer. I had this POST open for a while before I had a chance to answer it and didn't refresh.

Re: NetServer LC - please help! :-(

Thanks guys for the replies, unfortunetly though now that I've moved the switch the machine won't display any video :-(, it just sits there with the HD light stuck on...doesn't work even with the HDs unplugged from the motherboard...perhaps the most interesting tidbit is that now it seems that there's a delay before I hear the HDs powering on...any idea what's going on? The machine has been acting very funny since I got it, what with it changing from monochrome to vga randomly (should've always been vga) and it once complained randomly about losing the NICs config file but reloading the config seemed to for some reason fix that issue but still not the video...possible it is the main system board? And if so where can I find a replacement board? Thanks!

Re: NetServer LC - please help! :-(

sorry for all the replies...there's no edit function and I keep remembering things I forgot to post...just wanted to mention that it wasn't just this model NetServers email contact form that didn't work, it was I'm pretty sure all L series contact forms, and while I did get one to load, when I tried to send the message I'd get a internal server error complaining that the "EMAIL something" variable wasn't defined (probably used to define the email address the form was sent to)...so I can only conclude that HP has pretty much stopped providing support for the L series except for this area which is run by kind fellows such as you guys...and I'm new to this kind of computer and really need help to get it up and running since the documentation really just doesn't cut it for me...so pleeease, if you guys would be so kind as to IM with me to help me get this issue resolved I'd really appreciate it, thanks! :-)
