netserver lc
Hi
I have an old netserver lc 5/66 that doesn't boot. It has power (hdd and fans work) but there's no post, floppy or video activity. I took out all the boards, replaced battery, reseated micro and memory but that didn't help. Any ideas? (I read in another post that the reason could be a fried CMOS, is there any way to get a rom image and burn a new chip?)

Re: netserver lc
Pablo,
Does the LC beep at all at power-on? I looked in an old service manual I have and it lists two beep codes that point to a ROM failure:
Beep Code Failure
1-2-2-3 BIOS ROM checksum
2-1-2-3 Copyright checksum
All of the other codes indicate replacement of the system board, processor board, or memory is needed.
If you are getting a different beep code, respond here with the code and I'll try to help. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner handy right now, or I'd post the beep code table. I couldn't find one on the HP web for the LC, but I did find one for the LC3. It's much shorter than the one for the LC, but they all have the same meaning. Here's a link to it, fyi: http://isupport2.hp.com/Solution.asp?id=is11430
If anybody needs the full beep code chart for the LC, let me know and I'll post it here, if I can get a chance to scan it.
As to burning a copy of the ROM image, I don't believe HP has ever posted an image for a non-flashable BIOS, and I have no way to produce such an image, so I can't help you there - sorry.
I hope this info gets you a little closer to the solution, though!
Regards,
Dave

Re: netserver lc
There is no downloadable rom image available from HP.
Have you tried actually clearing the CMOS? You may need to do this several times (on one older server, 8x did the trick)!
To clear the CMOS configuration.
a. Turn the server off and unplug it. Take the case off.
b. Locate the set of system switches on the motherboard.
c. Move Switch #3 CONFIG VALID to the opposite position.
d. Power up the server. You will see a configuration error. The server will stop at this error.
e. Turn the server off, unplug it. Move Switch #3 back to the original position.
f. Power up the server. The BIOS program must be run to reconfigure the server.
Good luck!

Re: netserver lc
No, it doesn't beep at all. It just spins the disks and starts the fan but there's no floppy or video activity. Thanks anyway.
