Netserver LH Plus Random Reboots
I have a Netserver LH Plus that reboots itself at random. I am running Novell NW 4.11 OS.
I am not seeing any error messages or strange beeps in boot.
I have replaced the Power Supply and Memory, still rebooting on occassions.
There is no set time or order of the reboots they are at random.
I saw an article about a PCB on the front of a Netserver LM that caused this. Could this also apply to the LH Plus?
Thanks in advance,
Richie Bloodworth

Re: Netserver LH Plus Random Reboots
1) When did this random rebooting start?
2) What is the System BIOS version? It should be 4.05.15 PE, update from here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=15498&taskId=135&locale=en_US&docIndexId=178551&taskId=110&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50453&swEnvOID=54
Note: If you update the BIOS, you must use the matching ECU (BIOS setup program).
3) Do you have any cards installed in this server?
(is there an abend log with NW 4.11? If so, any errors here?)

Re: Netserver LH Plus Random Reboots
Thanks for the reply,
The rebooting started approx. a month ago. At first it was maybe once a week then became a couple times daily.
I replaced the Power supply in the server, the UPS (Battery Backup), and memory. This seemed to have helped, but have had 1 reboot since I replaced parts approx. 1 week ago.
The bios version: Not sure I will check this. I know it has not been updated in quite some time. Will updating the bios result in any problems with software or devices? What effect would the bios have in causing the machine to reboot?
What is the correct method for updating bios, what steps do I need to take to update?
You mentioned the bios must be accompanied with the matching ECU, please explain. Where can I get this?
The only added card to the machine is a NIC LAN card.
Thanks again,
Richie Bloodworth

Re: Netserver LH Plus Random Reboots
Can you remove the NIC for testing purposes? Or does this make the LH Plus not useful?
The BIOS update should not cause problems. Basically just go to the specified web page, and download the exe file to your local hard drive (on any computer). Run the exe file - you will be prompted for one diskette. This creates a bootable diskette - boot the server from this disk & follow the prompts to flash the BIOS.
To access the BIOS setup on the LH Plus requires a software program - there is no hot key such as F1. The ECU program is the BIOS setup program. Once you do update the BIOS (assuming of course it is not already current), you will need to create the ECU diskette (one the same web page) in order to run the BIOS setup.
