Netserver LH3 - Locking up
I have a Netserver LH3 with 3 raid arrays configured as follows.
Channel 0/array 0 = 4 x 9gb raid 5
Channel 0/array 1 = 2 x 18gb raid 1
Channel 1/array 2 = 6 x 18gb raid 5
The problem is that after an arbitrary amount of time the server will just lock up causing a power off reset to get the server back online. A failure can be induced by the movement of data from array0/1 to array2.
I have ungraded the firmware for the BIOS, Netraid controller and the backplane.
After looking into the problem further it has become apparent that 1 of the 6 drives in array 2 is of a different model [P1216A x 1] as opposed to [P1166A x 5]. The revision of firmware on the 5 drives is H008 and the revision of firmware on the 1 drive is P94N. This single drive was upgraded from P843D using the HDD firmware update tool.
Both of these drives are a certified Netserver LH3 drive.
Would a drive mismatch in the array cause the Netserver to lockup?
This problem has only become apparent after the installation of a new drive cage the implementation of array2.
Many thanks.
Regards
Andrew Smith

Re: Netserver LH3 - Locking up
Hi Andrew,
I suspect it could be due to the different RPM of the HDD you are using.
As the P1166A is using 10K RPM, while the P1216A is using 7200 RPM. As RAID 5, it might not sync properly.
Maybe you can try to take out the P1216A and try again.
Regards.
