netserver LH4 Win2K install problem

I have a Netserver LH4r and I'm having trouble installing Windows 2000 Server on it. Windows 2000 Server has been installed on the box before but not by me. That person is no longer working here and I'm trying to do a clean install. Whenever I install Win2K Server, the system goes to reboot and I get "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I've tried installing drivers, I've tried to use a Windows98 boot disk, etc. as stated in the forums here.

Could someone offer me some assistance to get this going?

Thanks!

Re: netserver LH4 Win2K install problem

Hello Shelly,

I would recommend you attempt the Windows 2000 installation through the use of the assisted OS install option from the server's Navigator CD. In short the procedure looks like this:

- Boot the server from the Navigator CD.
- Run through the assisted setup instructions
and provide the information required.
- Provide the Windows 2000 CD when prompted.

After the OS files have been copied from CD, the installation should continue automatically.

Hope this helps.

Most netservers have many disks available. You might want to try disconnecting the one you're currently using to see if that's the problem.

It sounds like your hard drive went bad (bad clusters, possibly). Bad clusters only grow, you can never get rid of them.
