Re: Netserver LT6000r PCI System Error
----
Hi,
We purchased a second hand server and that when the server is under load it crashes.
The front panel shows:
PCI System ErrorBus 0, Device 31, Function 0
I cannot find a device on this location. I've tried looking at the Windows 2000 Srv device manager, booted linux and did a cat /proc/pci and nothing shows a device with that path.
"Top tools v5.55" doesnt show it either.
It shows the following version numbers:
BIOS: 4.06.45PW
Video: 3.097
SCSI: 4.18.01
The server OS is Windoes 2000 Server SP4.
The machine product no is P1756A
It was setup by someone else but I have been given the job of finding out the cause of the crashes.
How can I locate the device in question?
Thanks.
GotJ
PS: If you need any more info please ask and I will do my best to get it.

Re: Netserver LT6000r PCI System Error
If you have Instant Top Tools good if you don't have it download it from this link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=19837&prodSeriesId=50459&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=COL3288&locBasepartNum=ns-11142-1&os=Microsoft+Windows+2000+Server&tech=Utility++HP+Instant+Toptools
and have look at the hard ware event log which will be found under the Status Tab
or
you can download the DOS ver of Hardware Event Log Display Utility and creat a bootable disk out of it, to see the hardware event log, from this link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=19837&prodSeriesId=50459&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=COL3415&locBasepartNum=ns-11635-1&os=Cross+OS&tech=Utility
Which ever one u use check the event log and that might give you what that failed hardware is
Good Luck

Re: Netserver LT6000r PCI System Error
probabily someone might have played with the BIOS setting so I would recommend to clear the CMOS as follows
1. Power down the server.
2. Disconnect the server from any power source and open the box
3. Move the configuration switch, Switch 5 on the system board, to the ON = CLEAR CONFIG position. (the configuration switch is a small dip switch with 8 dip switchs on the mainboard close to the CMOS battrey)
4. Plug in the power cords, and turn on power to the server. The following message might appears:
"The configuration has been cleared. Set the Clear Config switch to the OFF position before rebooting."
5. Power off the server and unplug the power cords.
6. Return Switch 5 on the system board to the OFF position.
7. Power on the server. The error message may be displayed:
"0012-34: Incorrect System Configuration"
8. Press F2 to get in to the BIOS setup
9. Press F9 to ge the default settings(however if u had a custom configuration before the clear CMOS make sure your Custome setting is in place)
10. Press F10 to save the configuration and exit the Setup utility.
Good Luck

Re: Netserver LT6000r PCI System Error
I passed on the information you gave me and after the system bios was reset it now reports that the device is on
Bus 0, Device 0, Function 0
on Instant Toptools 5.55 this is shown under PCI Embedded Cards category. In the function column it says "PCI/Host Bridge", under interrupt it says "not used".
Windows Device/Hardware manager the device "PCI Standard host CPU bridge" is shown on that location.
What do you recommend?
Regards,
GJ

Re: Netserver LT6000r PCI System Error
On rare occasions and under heavy I/O conditions, some LT 6000r u2 and LT 6000r u3 systems may experience a Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) error. The result is might be a 'blue screen' in servers running Windows
The cause of the NMI error has been attributed to the server's power supply. One of the three power supply units (PSU) is creating an excess current-share bus voltage. Replacing the PSU reduces the current-share bus voltage and eliminates the error
Although exchanging one PSU is all that is required, a field test for the individual PSU is not available. Therefore, HP recommends exchanging all three PSUs. Order exchange part number D9143-63001. If the server is still under warranty U can call 1-800-HP INVENT (1-800-474-6836) to get an exchange power supply.
