Netserver Storage System 6 Question
It should be possible to connect a SS6 to any other computer as long as you use the correct card and cable. I am attempting to use an SS6 with a Dell Poweredge 2300. The card is an Adaptec AHA-2944UW. What other software is necessary to manage the array??

Re: Netserver Storage System 6 Question
Lee,
The AHA-2944UW is just an HBA, so no other software would be required to control the hard drives other than the adaptec driver. It is a JBOD configuration however, you would have no array. If you want to create 1 logical drive with a Raid 5, then you need a different controller like a PCI Raid Controller, not an HBA.
Ciao,
Greg

Re: Netserver Storage System 6 Question
The 2944UW does HVDS (High Voltage Differential SCSI).
The SS6 does SE (Single Ended) Ultra Wide SCSI. I don't think that it can do LVDS (Low Voltage Differential SCSI). It definitely can't do HVDS.
LVDS devices usually can fall back to SE if there is another SE device on the SCSI bus.
HVDS is not compatible with LVDS or SE in any way.
So the SS6 cannot work with a 2944UW.

Re: Netserver Storage System 6 Question
OK, I have changed my configuration and attached the ss6 to a Dell Perc II Raid card. The channel 0 shows my internal drives in the server. The channel 1 shows only an HP autoloader tape drive that I installed in the array, the drives are not shown. Also, I cannot find the internal terminator. I am fairly sure that this is necessary, so maybe you can tell me where to find one.
