Scheduling RAID consistency checks on Netservers.

How do I setup a schedule so consistency checks are run automatically at regularly scheduled intervals? If there is a discrepancy found does it log the error and if so where can the log be found? What is the recommended interval for checking consistency in raid drives?

OS is NT 4.0 using raid 5 with three raid drives and one hot spare. Thanks for the reply.

This may be more to the point...

Automated Consistency Check Scheduling
HP currently can automate consistency checks only under the Microsoft operating systems. When you install NetRAID Assistant, it adds an NT Service called "NetRAID". This service manages the automated consistency check (MEGACTRL.EXE).

To enable this consistency check, open a command prompt window and enter the following command: megactrl -enChkCon

This will enable the consistency check on the next scheduled time of running. The default time is every Sunday at midnight. You can specify parameters to MEGACTRL.EXE to change the scheduled run time. To see all available parameters to schedule the consistency check, use the following command:

>megactrl ?

To verify the consistency check schedule, you can stop and restart the HP NetRAID Service and look in the NT Application log for an event from the source NetRAID.LOG. In the description of this event, the EnableFlag indicates if the check is enabled (1) or disabled (0).

Re: Scheduling RAID consistency checks on Netservers.

Hi Thomas

Just a reminder
caution have to be taken (when you make the consistency check ) not to over lap the backup time, if u make any back up of course, with the consistency check time. If the accidentaly happen to be at the same time (the consistency check and a backup) you might run in to a SCSI time out error and the back up will fail.

Hope this will help
