I have a HP Netserver E60 with multi-processor capability. It has 2 identical processors installed. When booting BIOS reports dual processors, but NT only sees 1. I've read the Microsoft support article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;124541 which says I need to chose one off:
halast.dll = "AST Manhattan SMP"
halsp.dll = "Compaq SystemPro Multiprocessor or 100% Compatible"
halcbus.dll = "Corollary C-bus Architecture"
halmca.dll = "IBM PS/2 or other Micro Channel-based PC"
halapic.dll = "MPS Uniprocessor PC"
halmps.dll = "MPS Multiprocessor PC"
halncr.dll = "NCR System 3000 Model 3360/3450/3550"
haloli = "Olivetti LSX5030/40"
hal.dll = "Standard PC"
hal486c.dll = "Standard PC with C-Step i486"
halwyse7.dll = "Wyse Series 7000i Model 740MP/760MP"
But what do I chose for my E60? I think it is halmps.dll? Has anyone got any thoughts?

Re: Setup NT for Multi-processor
Ran UPTOMP choosing MPS. On reboot NT would not load ├в reported error in FASTFAT.SYS. This problem dealt with in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;174623 so restored single processor settings, ran UPTOMP and reapplied Service Pack 6 before rebooting. Then experienced the following problem:
Prior to running UPTOMP, NT would start to load by displaying white characters on blue screen something like:
├в Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 6, build 1380)├в
├в 1 system processor (128 Mbytes)├в
Both lines were displayed immediately - I can├в t recall the exact wording. Then a series of dots would appear on the third line.
After running UPTOMP and reapplying SP6 on reboot the ├в Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 6, build 1380)├в was displayed, but there was delay of several seconds before the second line was displayed ├в 2 system processors (128 Mbytes) multiprocessor kernel├в . Then three dots appeared on the third line. There was then a delay of a minute or two whilst a lot of hard drive activity occurred. Then an error message appeared and the server immediately rebooted itself. The reboot occurred so quickly I couldn├в t read the error message. If left unattended the server would get to the same point then reboot, and again, and again ├в ┬ж.
I booted using a floppy and restored the single processor settings, now server boots fine ├в but single processor. Any ideas what├в s causing this reboot problem? I did wonder whether there was something wrong with the second processor but I├в ve run the test procedures on the E60 CD and they report the processor is working fine and the two are compatible. Is there any way I can get to read the error message before it disappears during the reboot?
