Strange backup problem HP netserver tc4100 /vs80dlt
Gentleman,
Picture this:
HP netserver tc4100 with VSTAPE DLT
Novell netware 5.1 sp5
Arcserve 6.6 IT sp4
Tapeware
Problem:
When the Arcserve backup starts at 22:00 we get a media write error
When we schedule a immediate backup everything runs o.k
Maybe an Arcserve problem. We switch to Tapeware same time 22:00 the backup starts
exact sam problem.
HP changed the DLT unit, we changed to nw tapes. Arcserve and Tapeware are not causing these errors because Arcserve uses canwpa.cdm and Tapeware uses nwaspi.cdm. Could it be compression of Novell? We switched scsi controllers (there are two on board).
These problem persist from the beginning.
Also a strange thing:
We have to apply 3 jobs in arcserve to let it make a total backup job. If we put it all in one job also we received media write errors.
Does somebody has experience with these problems.
Regards,
Ger van de Kolk

Re: Strange backup problem HP netserver tc4100 /vs80dlt
Ger,
very interesting issue. You start backup at 22:00 and it fails - when? Immediately at 22:00? If you'll try to start at 23:00 will it fail? Or at 21:50 will it fail at 22:00?
General question is do we tied to 22:00?
From the hardware point of view I would check if server's bios and SCSI card's bios are the latest and DLT drive firmware is a latest (use HP LTT, http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html )
