TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

My server is currently booting off a RAID 5 array. I added another Hard Disk on the SCSI bus (not in the array) for additional hdd space. Now the server won't boot. Blinking cursor. I tried changing boot device order but to no avail. Bios detects all the hardware but no action.I removed the hdd and had to reset bios defaults to get the server to boot. Can Anyone tell me what needs to be done or why this is happening?

Re: TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

Hello Sam,

Which netraid controller are you using and what controller was the additional hard drive attached to?

Are you splitting the backplane?

Re: TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

I am running the RAID off an Adaptec 2110s Ultra 3 Controller and the additional hardrive is running off the onboard Symbios logic 53C1010-66. On the onboard SCSI bus I have a HP DDS drive with SCSI id 4, I initially assigned the New HDD SCSI id 10.

Hope that answers what you are looking for.
Thank you for the help.

Re: TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

Hello Sam,

I have been researching but nothing has popped out as being incompatible. So my next question is - which DDS drive and was the additional hard drive on the same SCSI cable?

If it was, did you try the other SCSI channel or disconnect the tape drive and leave just the hard drive on the cable?

Thanks for the pic - it helps. If you want to get rid of the SAF-TE SCSI processor in Other Devices, you should update the SAF-TE driver that's available at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=74371&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=74369&cc=us&swEnvOID=181

Also, which driver are you using for the embedded SCSI chipset that the additional hard drive and DDS attach to? Specifically, what is the date on the driver, not the version.

Re: TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

Hi There,

It seems as though when I connect the hard drive to the primary scsi (onboard) adapter which also hosts the dds. The bios disables the scsi controller in its boot options. The SCSI sym53c66xx option in the boot menu dissapears. The server then fails to boot.My OS runs on a RAID 5 array.

I have tried with the dds drive connected and disconnected i have also tried every SCSI Id availble except the ones reserved for the adapter and raid controller. It seems to be a BIOS problem.

Re: TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

Hi

Under Configuration (IN BIOS)
->Boot DEvice Odering
->Multiboot menu
What are the options you are getting there.

Second,
The Adaptec 2110s (Ultra 3 Controller) is not under the compatility list also. Have you tested same with any Netraid card.

Re: TC 3100 Server Booting Problems

When The scsi HDD is not attached the options are as follows:

cdrom device
hard disk
Intel boot agent
removable disk
sym53cxx

when the scsi hdd is attached

i get the following options

cdrom device
hard disk
intel boot agent
removable disk.

see it disables the
raid or onboard scsi in the boot menu

Thanks
