Upgrade linux system disks on netserver LPr

Hello,

I am new to HP Netservers, but not to UNIX/Linux. I have a problem with upgrading an LPr connected to a RAID cabinet.

I built a Linux OS on a pair of disks on one machine then pulled out the old disks on the machine to be upgraded.

When I reboot, the system comes up with an error:

"Unresolved configuration mismatch between disk(s) and NVRAM on the adapter"

I read up on the storage troubleshooting guide, but it
tells me I need to clear the current configuration and redo it - and restore from tape!

Surely I don't have to really do this? What is the best solution for me to conduct this disk replacement?

I was hoping that there could be some way to force the NVRAM to accept the new pair of OS disks without redoing the whole system and restoring from a backup.

Can someone please help me as
I have already wasted 2 days on this job and I do not know how to proceed.

Thanks!

Re: Upgrade linux system disks on netserver LPr

hi

The message "UNRESOLVED Configuration Mismatch" is different than "Configuration Mismatch".
this Unresolved indicate that you have differents configuration stored on your hdd.
first I need to know how many disk give this error.
if you have only one hdd and this is part of a redundand drive, just fail this drive and boot in degraded mode

if both hdd that has been removed give you this error, than try to understand what is the difference between the configurations, (may be you switch up your server without these hdd and the system put them in failed)

unfortunately, if you have more than on disk in the raid with the unresolved mismatch, usualy the way to solve is to write down the complete configuration, clear the config, recreate the original configuration without inizialize the logical drives.

Re: Upgrade linux system disks on netserver LPr

Thanks for your reply!

What we have is 5 disks in the
cabinet - 2 filesystems are comprised of 2x9GB disks striped together to give 17GB
on each filesystem, The last disk is just a simple 9GB on its own. Inside the HP LPr computer, there were 2x9GB disks installed with Redhat 6.2 that were just mirrored.

I pulled the 2 disks out of the LPr and replaced them with
2 disks that were built on another LPr. This other LPr never had a RAID cabinet attached and was configured for just simple mirroring.

Thanks

Re: Upgrade linux system disks on netserver LPr

hi

then the last step apply to your case.

anyway if you have on the two internal hdd of the two server the same configuration, you can try this step:
-first do a backup of the data if possible
-remove the two hdd you just add from the server lpr,
-start with the cd-navigator
-start netraid assistant
-you will found a config like 1 logical drive failed (with the two hdd in fail and not responding) and other Logical drives.
-Save the configuration on the floppy disk from configuration>>save
-put the two hdd in the server without storage attached
-start with cd-navigator
-start netraid assistant
-recover configuration from configuration>>load
-you will found now the configuration from similar to the one on the original server, may be tthe disk in the storage will put in fail , no problem
-now move the two hdd in the Lpr, restart and you will found the original configuration (force on line the hdd because you will found them in fail)
-thats all
