Urgent help needed pls!
Hi, one of my Dell servers died and I want to take the 3 hard drives out of this and place them into a test server I have. It's a LH3 with netraid express tools b.01.01.
How would I go about changing the configuration so that these new disks (already formatted/ data etc that cannot be lost)will show up.
It's been a while since I used these tools and I'm not sure if I just clear the config, create a new easy config by selecting the new disks adn reboot. Is it that simple?
thanks

Re: Urgent help needed pls!
IT,
You need to go to configure, new configuration and recreate the array exactly how it was set up on the dell server. It may or may not work. The critical pieces of configuration are the ID's are assigned the same, the size of the LD and the stripe size are all identical. Once you create the array DO NOT initialize or the data will be gone.
I don't know how the dell controllers work compared to the netraid but the basic concept should be the same. I would be surprised if it works though!
Good luck,
Greg

Re: Urgent help needed pls!
Thanks for your help. I did try that but am not sure if the ID's are correct as it didn't work. I'm not willing to take it further really in case I ruin some perfectly ok disks when all that has happened is a broken power supply.
May be worth playing around with on not critical disks!
Thanks

Re: Urgent help needed pls!
First, I doubt you can do what you are trying without losing everything that is on the hard drives, because the software used in the Dell arrays is totally different from the HP configuration. I am assuming you have a Raid Array configuration in the DEll. When you say the Dell Server died, what are you implying? Is the hardware gone? Did you have the DELL set up with the OS on a partition of the Hard drive array? Were these drives being used as an array, or as individual drives? What operating system are you using in the Dell? The real problem here is that if you are using MS NT or WIn2000 on a partition on the drive array, then the SCSI software has to be installed in the system before the OS could see and use the hard drive array, and this software is different on the LH3. This is also stored on the drive and in the CMOS. Therefore the OS will not be able to recognize that the array even exists if it is moved to the LH3 (different drivers are needed). Your best bet is to recover the Dell hardware. I need nore info about your system to be able to understand what really happened here.
