Using a PS/2 based KVM switch with LH 3000 Netserver

I have three HP servers I would like to share a keyboard, mouse, and monitor between. I have been successfull in getting 2 of the servers to accept kb/mouse input via the KVM; however, the LH3000 boots with a keyboard error and will not accept the keyboard and mouse being connected via a KVM. Does anybody have any helpful insight as to why this would be the case? The other servers are an E800 and an older LD Pro.

Is the KVM set to the LH3000 when you get the error? Or does it only do it when the KVM is on a different server? What brand switch is it?

Re: Using a PS/2 based KVM switch with LH 3000 Netserver

Chris,
When I boot the server I set the KVM to the port that I have the server connected to. The KVM is a Cables To Go brand. Nothing spectacular but it works well on the other two servers. It uses emulation circuitry to allow boot up regardless of switch position. The error occurs after all of the RAID bios settings post and the system is about to begin loading the OS. The system emits a continuous string of beeps and displays the keyboard error message. Currently I have the KVM sharing the monitor between all 3 servers and the keyboard and mouse between the 2 that I had no problems with. I have a keyboard and mouse connected directly with the LH3000 for now.

David,

Did you try other known working ports and cables on the KVM Switch going to the LH 3000? Does the cable that works on the E800 work for the LH 3000 and vice versa? Sounds like the issue is with the KVM switch or cables since the LH3000 works fine hooked directly to a keyboard/mouse.

Greg,
I did try all ports and switched the cables to make sure that the KVM wasn't the problem. The result was the same. I went as far as to link my HP Vectra workstation and two other pc's together with the unit and everything worked great. Not a single problem.

Does the LH3000 work alone on the KVM switch?

Greg,
I don't recall having tried this. Later today when I can shut the server down without interupting the flow of business I will give this a try.

Greg,
I tried booting the server with the other servers disconnected from the KVM and ended up with the same result. I appreciate your input.
