Backup error with HD server 4000
Hi,
i could not backup files named longer 99 characters.
Is it possible to change the tar version?

more details? What do you mean 'could not backup'?
This NAS server, HD4000, is a 'black box' running Samba for unix, and I do not believe we can reinstall something manually on it (at least never heard about it)

the meaning of could not backup is the log files have an entry like this:
2003:04:02 10:12:55 TAR:25 ./81 - Contractoren/Italien/8170186 Tecnimot HDPE for Wesseling/05 - Korrespondenz-Kunde/E-MAil von TECNIMONT/HDPE PLANT WESSELING TCM JOB 311209 Material requisition 31 Coperion Waeschle project No 8170186.msg : Name too long

looks like no way. I checked and found that there's a limitation in tar structure definition where file name has only 100 character length (including \0, so 99 printable chars). See
man 4 tar
in hpux for more information
