11i network setup - err resolving hostname
I am trying to setup a B1000 with 11i on my home network and get internet access to it. My home network is basicly a netgear firewall/router. I do not use DNS, every computer has a specific IP address. I booted the machine, selected my language etc.. I get to the part where it asks about networking, i entered the IP i wanted it to have, the subnet and the default gatway (192.168.1.1) THEN it asked for additional networking information, I named the computer hpuxbox. (its gets fuzzy here) i think it asked for a name server or something and i entered the default gateway IP because it would not let me proceed without filling out all the info.. Now X will not start due to a incorrect networking config, and it keeps trying to reslove host hpuxbox every 20 seconds or so. I logged in failsafe mode and did /sbin/set_parms initial and tried to redo the network config and still nothing. I have read looked over many messages in the fourms and think i need to edit the hosts files.. could of you guru's point me in the right direction? Once this problem is fixed will the computer access the internet using my default gateway? do i need a firewall on my hpux box just as in windows? help me in the quest to get all the Wintel gear out my house hehe. T I A!!!

Re: 11i network setup - err resolving hostname
Since your not using dns, X is puking on your server name hpuxbox, it is trying to find an ip which relates to this server called hpuxbox. What you need to do is make sure that the server is using /etc/hosts as part of it's name lookup. You can edit /etc/nsswitch (not sure, but I think this the file which you can specify /etc/hosts as part of the name lookup). Then make sure in /etc/hosts that is an entry for hpuxbox. Good luck.
