Accessing Lexmark Printer through NT
I need to access a lexmark printer which carries a network card but is not
compatible with jetadmin (the only netwoork print driver I have access to
ATM). The printer does function as a network printer on the PC-lan. I want to
try accesing it as a remote printer through one of the NT servers. Has anyone
had experience configuring this type of access?

Re: Accessing Lexmark Printer through NT
The printer has a network card, thus an IP address must be first assigned to
the printer.
Under HP-UX, try to ping the printer.
If it works, run jetadmin.
Choose "3. add a printer to local spooler"
At the question "Enter the network printer name/IP name", enter the IP address
(or alias) of the printer.
The following message is displayed :
"!! No response from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
... trying to ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Ther HP Jet Admin.....
...
Do you want to continue 'y/n/q)"
Reply y
An another message is then displayed, choose the following reply "2. Ignore it
and continue the process".
A list of printer is displayed, choose "8) HP LaserJet 4Si/4Si MX printers"
which firmware is very close to Lexmark printers.
The following message is displayed :
"Is this printer connected to :
1) An HP Xstation
2) ..
..
4) Other"
Choose "4"
Then you will be able to configure the printer as you usually do for HP
printers.
Most of the time this method works fine, and is much more efficient than
configuring a printer as a remote printer.
