adding a Canon GP335 printer

I have to add a Canon GP335 printer to a HPUX
system. Does anybody know where I can find information how to do that. I think I have to use a model script specific for this printer.

Re: adding a Canon GP335 printer

Jan,

I have configured 2 GP335 into my UNIX spooler. It's not a question of model scripts, you don't have to worry about this.
GP335 has a built in spooler , so you have to set it up as a remote printer.
I have included my settings

Re: adding a Canon GP335 printer

Hi,

It wasn't really clear how to setup the printer. Did Rainer von Bongartz provide you with step by step instruction, I having a problem setting up this printer. Where it prints plain text but not postscript. I've setted it up using jet direct using dumb printer as its driver. what did you guys do to get it to work ? Thanks

Re: adding a Canon GP335 printer

Setting up a printer as a remote printer (such as a printer attached to a PC or a printer using a non-HP LAN adapter) is quite simple--use SAM, add the printer as a remote printer. However, be sure to check the box that selects BSD printer, and obtain the name of the remote printer from your server or the LAN card's documentation.

For JetDirect, start by installing the latest HP Printer Installer software. Since the printer is not an HP printer, HPPI can't determine the required model script, so you'll have to select the script manually using hppi or the addqueue command.

Regarding Postscript, HP-UX has never provided any filters for Postscript. That means that if you want to print a file in Postscript, you'll have to find a program that will produce Postscript output. (Technically, there is a rudimentary postscript model script but that simply formats an ASCII file into Postscript suitable for printers that do not understand a plain ASCII file).

I you are going to use a remote spool but don't know the default queue name. You can use SNMP to get it. Either do an snmp walk and look for the queue name or check out this website. There is lots of detail for canon printers.
