Adding a external tape drive

Adding a external tape drive

I am trying to setup a external tape drive on a Visualize B132L workstation. I alrady have an external CD rom on this machine, How can I add a tape drive on this machin for backup. Is it possible to add a tape drive on this machine. I can remove the External CD rom if that is going to be a problem to install the tape drive.( I am not using the CD rom naiway). I would like to get some help on this issue please.

Re: Adding a external tape drive

You should be able to daisy chain the tape drive off the CD-Rom or vice-versa. Just make sure that the last device still has a terminator, all SCSI ids on the SCSI Bus that you will be using are not already used and that you do have the drivers for the tape drive configured into the kernel.

Re: Adding a external tape drive

Hi Raghu

There is no rpoblem at all , infact it will better to remove the CD and attach tape since both are external devices only . Please check the following .

1. H/W should be off.
2. Disconnect the CD ROM .
3. Check for the SCSI ID of the Tape Drive and also the termination.
4. Boot the machine .
5.Do a ioscan to find the tape device.

And you are set to go.
