Adding a network printer

Hi,
Im trying to add a network printer via smh and I get the error below:Kindly assist.Its a kyocera printer

Enter the network printer name or IP address (q - quit): 192.168.8.36

!! No response from 192.168.8.36 !!
... (trying to ping 192.168.8.36)

The HP JetDirect Printer Installer for Unix can ping the device.
The problem may be:
* incorrect GET community name!
* it is not a network printer!
* other.

Re: Adding a network printer

Hi,

Are you able to ping 192.168.8.36 from OpenVMS? Please refer the below link which contains some information about how to instal SMH and very the steps that you used to instal.

Re: Adding a network printer

You're asking this in a VMS forum.

> [...] Im running on HP-UX 11i V3 [...]

If you include any important information
when you ask a question, then you might get
directed to an appropriate forum sooner.

"SAM", not "sma"?

> [...] Its a kyocera printer

Does Kyocera make only one printer, or does
this thing have some kind of model number?

Also, according to your user profile:

I have assigned points to 0 of 34
responses to my questions.

_I_ don't care, but some people take these
Forum points seriously, so not rating the
responses you get may tend to result in your
getting fewer responses (even if you were to
post your question in an appropriate forum).

Re: Adding a network printer

Well, here is just another option - HP Jet Direct. Old faithful actually works on HPUX 11i ver3 (yes even Itanium).

Had to build a couple 11iv3 IA-boxes recently an it was much quicker to just put all the known network printers in using this old utility.

Not much useful information, either. These
facts might be related.
