Adding disk to striped volume

How can I add disk to existing logical volume, that was striped? In fact I should to increase striping number during extending of the volume, but how can I do it?

I didn't find answer in man pages, sorry....

Re: Adding disk to striped volume

However many disks you have in your stripe is the number of new disks you need to add in order to extend it. ie. if you have 4 disks in your current stripe you will need to add in 4 new disks to extend it. Or, add in 1 disk, offload your data, restripe, then reload it.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: Adding disk to striped volume

Hello,

I think there is no easy way to do this with lvm except setting up the lvol again. If the new disk should be included in the stripeset all extents would have to be redistributed.

Maybe this is possible with VxVM but I am not sure.
Well, yeah ... I suppose there's no point in getting greedy, is there?

Re: Adding disk to striped volume

Hi,

you are not able to change the stripe size of disks on an existing lvol!!!

If you want to increase the lvol you have two possibilities:

a) add as much disk as you striped the lvol currently and then extend the lvol using 'lvextend'

b) create a backup of the lvol, remove the lvol and recreate it with the new stripe value

NO other ways are possible!!!

Re: Adding disk to striped volume

Well apart from all else, If the disk array uses hot swap just add them online whilst the system is up, this way HP-UX will pick them up straight away.
