Adding HP-PB 100BT (a3495) to HP 9000 K-class server

I am new to the HP world, I am a SUN/Solaris type, so I am a little lost. I have added the 100mb card to the K-Class server and have added the BTLAN driver into SAM and rebooted to rebuild the Kernel. I have also added the patch PHNE_22962 to the server. When I do a lanscan all it finds is the 10mb card that coexists in the server. I have no references to the 100mb card. Can anyone tell me what additional patches are needed and if I need any additional steps to see this card?

Hi Matt:

Configure the card with SAM;

SAM -> Networking&Communications -> Network Interface Cards -> [highlight the card] -> Actions = Configure.

Did you install the HP-PB 100BT software from the applications CD? When you got the card it should have come with a codeword certificate that gave you the codeword to unlock the product from the applcations CD.

Here is the software I have installed on my K460 with the 100BT card.

I do not see the card in the SAM, Network Interfaces. Also, I am unaware of any software that came with the card. I guess I got ripped off. I will have to call the vendor and see if there was supposed to be software shipped and where is it.....

The product you need is J2759BA (HP-PB 100Base-T/9000) and it looks like the currennt version is B.10.20.11.

If you got this from someone other than HP and they didn't include the software, I'd say you've got a very legitimate issue with them. The card won't do you much good without the software, as you've seen.

I installed it from the March 2001 application cd and it showed up. This card didn't need any locking/unlocking on it. It goes to show you the subtle differences from Solaris to HPUX. Thanks again for the help...

you need to be aware that the HP-PB 100BT card is diplomatically described as as "connectivity solution" not a "performance solution." no matter what type of K you have, it will not do more than about 50 Mbit/s with a tail wind. could be even lower if you have an older/slower K - ther have been _many_ versions of the class...

if you need/want higher performance you need to install an HSC 100BT card and its driver. that card is faster and its driver consumes less CPU per packet

Thanks for the tip, I will look into this further. Although, 50mb with a tailwind sure beats the 10mb with a prayer that we had before....

i'm reading this thread to add a HP-PB 100BT card to my K-class.
the problem i'm getting is that
"LAN100BT-PB-KRN not available from Depot
"LAN100BT-PB-RUN " "
"LAN100NT-PB-COM not available"
can somebody please help me in determing what this means and how i can solve it.

are you certain you are pointing at a good depot with the driver bits (and possible dependencies) available?
