Adding remote printers using sam

I always used SAM to add remote printers, but since Tuesday I am unable to add them using sam. It is amazing that I can add them from command line but I got an error saying that the printer exist when I try adding them using SAM. I am wondering if some of you had this problem and can give me a hand. This machine is within a ServiceGuard cluster but the other two machines are working fine.

Re: Adding remote printers using sam

Dario,
Can you add your printers with jetadmin? Do you get any errors when using SAM. I assume that SAM is still functional for other functions, so you should be able to look in the SAM log file for this. Any error information may be helpful to those reading your questions.

Re: Adding remote printers using sam

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I noticed an error in the samlog file. When I try to add the printer using sam I am getting a exit status 5 in the lpmgr command used by sam. This utility generates a list of printers, but the printer I am trying to create is not there. I was able to create them using the Jetadmin utility.

Re: Adding remote printers using sam

Hi Dario,

One possibility is that you are adding a printer with the name which already exist in the system. I mean you may be using the same name as an existing printer.

hope this helps.

Re: Adding remote printers using sam

Thank you for your reply. We check all the files under the /var/spool/lp directory to see if there was a file with the same name but there is not such thing. HP requested the installation of the patch PHCO_23876 but that patch is already installed.

Re: Adding remote printers using sam

You may also check the /etc/lp/interface and /etc/lp/interface/model.orig files for the printer. Remove the definition for the specified printer and try to readd it with sam..

Hope it works
