Re: Another Crowning - John Bolene

Great job John!

I envision a new hertz commercial: John running through an airport jumping over those stupid people queue ropes - while holding on to his crown!

Re: Another Crowning - John Bolene

Unfortunately I see something a little
different.... John driving a rent-a-car
through the airport terminal skittling
over the witches hats being unknown users
who failed to assign points....

ha ha

and still holding his crown!

Re: Another Crowning - John Bolene

I don't get to run thru airports, I just get to sit here and make sure that the reservation computers keep doing what they are supposed to.

I have to admit that the crown was a long time in coming, I had wished for one for Xmas and almost made it.

I posted a few answers yesterday when the forums were a bit faster, they have been so slow after that I just gave up.

Gee, 33rd crown (kind of a magic number), I had also hoped for number 42, which is the magic number of the universe because it is the angle of refraction of sunlight inside a drop of water that mkaes a rainbow.

I guess I have to relate my life story now as has been done by the other reigning crowns.

Graduated from Ponca City High School in 1969 (yup, just turned 50 a few months ago) and then got my BA in Physics at Oklahoma University in 1973 and MS in Computer Science in 1975.

Went to work for a small oil company and was trained on a UNIVAC 1100. After a year went to work for OTASCO (Oklahoma Tire and Supply, probably never heard of it, went bankrupt 3 years after I quit due to being bought by management) for 2 years. Then went to Hertz and have been here for almost 24 years.

4 years ago, we started a project to replace the mainframe with HP UNIX servers and I was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of UNIX gobble-de-gook commands with almost none of them having the same action for the same option. (WHO made this crazy thing so hard to understand anyway?)

I got into these forums to research problems after our HP rep mentioned that we could get more information there. The rest is history.

FYI, I do have a small high power rocket business that occupies my spare time. It is starting to grow and may be what I spend my time doing after retirement.

The largest rocket that my group has launched was a 1/3 semi scale V2 (14 feet tall, 22 inches diameter) that weighed 185 pounds on liftoff that went to an altitude of 5100 feet. So these are not real small rockets. I have just purchased a radio tracking system (these rockets are all reusable and so we have to go find them) with a range of 15 miles in the air and 5 on land. I will be getting into altitude rockets and plan on 15-20 thousand feet later this year.

Glad to belong to the clan of the crown, I hope that I have not offended too many folks trying to get them to assign points.
It is always a good day when you are launching rockets! http://tripolioklahoma.org, Mostly Missiles http://mostlymissiles.com

Re: Another Crowning - John Bolene

Hello John,

glad to see you at the court!

I am certain, if you would have told us on the forums, that you wanted *your* crown for X-mas, more of the not-assigners would have given you your deserved points!

Harry told us in october, so he got his first one earlier...

Congrats,
Wodisch
