Apache/Front Page Extension Question

This is an apache question that applies to HP apache 2.x and the Linux distribution.

Is there a means for supporting front page extensions on a Unix based, apache web server?

If so, where do I find it, what does it cost and do you have experience administering it.

To get a bunny, i need at least a site and a cookbook.

Or if the answer is no, the first verifiable no gets a rabbit.

I have a customer that wants a major website, could be a real revenue help to my struggling business but he uses dreamweaver and front page extensions.

My understanding is that the functionality of these extensions can be replaced by cgi scripts. If so pointers to resoures in this area are bunny candidates as well.

Re: Apache/Front Page Extension Question

Hi Steven,

As far as I know, frontpage is a Microsoft product, support can be added to a HPUX server by downloading and installing the HPUX files.

Hope this helps,

Re: Apache/Front Page Extension Question

Hello,
I have used a web site (ISP ) where Apache runs on FreeBSD and Frontpage extensions are also alllowed to be installed ( optional - default is no frontpage extensions). They usually do not provide FP extensions by default as

I did try installing FP extensions and after that I was able to connect and admin my site using Frontpage. So in theory, it is possible to install FP extensions on UNIX server which runs apache.

There is knowledge base of this ISP which will help you with more details.

Re: Apache/Front Page Extension Question

Excellent news.

I'm going to read the websites provided and assume I can find the extensions for Linux in the same general area.

You're going to get a minimum of 7 points unless the links are no good or something ;-)

I'll do the research over the weekend and hand out those bunnies when the leads pan out.

Your input is much appreciated.

Re: Apache/Front Page Extension Question

It sounds easy.

This forum might help me get the kind of customer that can save a really tough situation. If they handed out customers on technical merit, I'd have a pile.

Hopefully some of my friends here will be pulling for me.

Re: Apache/Front Page Extension Question

Hello Steven,

You may want to consider using the HP-UX Web Server suite, which contains Microsoft FrontPage 2002 support. This includes documentation detailing installation of the Front Page 2002 Server Extensions specifically for HP-UX Apache-based Web Server.

For more information, refer to
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=HPUXWSSUITE

or you may want to consider using the Internet Express. Now, one of the features of this product is FrontPage 2000 server extensions for HP-UX apache-based web server, which may be provided in future.

For more information, refer to http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/operating/internet/express.html

Re: Apache/Front Page Extension Question

Most of Microsoft's documentation shows front page support only for apache 1.3.19

HP has made it work in the web suite for 2.0.48?

I'm reading but I need my hand held.

Wondering about Linux. Maybe a seperate post over there.
