Application freezes

I've some users (WAN) telneting into a server where they are running some Oracle 10.7 character applications. They keep complaining that the application freezes up. Local users don't seem to experience this problem. Is there a way to monitor their telnet sessions?

Re: Application freezes

OK...first, yes you can monitor their sessions (to a point).
I recommend Glance + and set up your parm file to specifically look for this app. That may help you see what is going on when it freezes.

.....please excuse me if my memory fails....but Oracle 10.7? Oracle 7x, 8x, 8i, 9x....but did I miss Oracle releasing 10.7?

Re: Application freezes

What access method do the "local" users use? Do they also telnet in? if so, then your problem lies in your network routing, or your network equipment.

Re: Application freezes

One last thought...
You mention WAN. Depending if your folks are 'true' WAN, ie connected direct to the backbone...or if they are connection via internet using an ISP (i.e. dial up with modem) - than much of performance is going to be affected. If they are using an ISP...than performance would depend on their provider...and a dial up will never give you the performance a direct cable connection to the backbone will - now both will experience what appears to be freezing up. But a dial up....will be very very VERY much worse than a direct cable connection.

Hope this helps,

Re: Application freezes

Rita, thanks for your two replies. The database is 7.3.4 the applications are Oracle Financial 10.7 character. The users access these application via a telnet session. The WAN connect is T-1 to T-1 VPN. I realize it most likely is a network issue, but the network seems fine and stable for applications other than telnet.

Re: Application freezes

If you want to monitor a telnet session and actually see what your users are seeing check out DoubleVision. It is developed by Tridia software.

As root you can invoke DoubleVision from one of your sessions and you can see what any user is doing.
