applications installed with codeword

Hi,

Can you determine on a server which applications from the application CD were installed using a codeword?

I know the codewords are stored in /var/adm/sw/.codewords. But can you determine as well what application is enabled by the codeword?

I'll be installing a new server running HPUX11i and have to migrate a few licenses currently running on a HPUX11.0 server. Just in case that the customer doens't know any more which applications were installed with the codeword.

Or does the codeword enables all the applications found on the CD part number. But there are 6 application CD's for HPUX11.0 and only four for HPUX11i, so they are otherwise distributed.

best regards,
Kurt

Re: applications installed with codeword

Codewords are related to the CD and applications. You can have multiple codewords for the same CD but different applications (for instance measureware and Mirror/UX).

What you should do is have the customer search for the codewords sheets they had when the server was installed. On that, the applications should be mentioned for which the codewords work. That should help you on your way.
Every problem has at least one solution. Only some solutions are harder to find.

Re: applications installed with codeword

Kurt,

I might be wrong here but I thought the code words were for individual applications on specific CD part numbers. Presumably, if the new machine is a different OS level, then the CD part numbers will be different and therefore the codes will be different than you have anyway.

If I'm wrong then again, I don't think it will matter because when you enter the codewords, it isn't actually linked to an application. Therefore, you can just add all your codewords and all the applications that you need will become activated.

This all assumes you do it from the swinstall GUI of course.

Re: applications installed with codeword

No, you cant determine from the .codewords file which applications each codeword is for. You need the original paperwork sent to you by HP to match that up. All you can determine is which apps cd was used for that codeword (eg. Dec 2003 cd2)

Each licensed application on each apps cd requires a different codeword so you could have 1, or 5, licensed apps on a particular cd (eg. Dec 2003 cd1) which are all activated using a single codeword.

The easiest thing to do is use SUM from the itrc.hp.com and download the licensed apps yourself, put them in a depot, and install across the network - this way no codewords needed at all!
