ASCII to Binary
I used use a program named "atob" in NEC workstaions (UNIX system) that converts ASCII files in binary files. I was use the following syntaxe: atob [ascii file] [bin file].
I??d like to know how can I make this in HP worstations usin HP-UX systems. Is there a same program in this system?

Re: ASCII to Binary
I don't know what you mean by 'ASCII' and 'Binary' files. If it't dos and unix format, you can use "dos2ux dosfile > unixfile" or "ux2dos unixfile > dosfile"
Regards.

Re: ASCII to Binary
it would be really helpful to know the manual page of atob.
On hpux, you find a programs vis and inv, where the first one creates "visible" output, the second one converts back to whatever the input was.

Re: ASCII to Binary
xd /etc/profile
If it involves converting ASCII data files with numbers into a binary format, that will be a 100% custom job since there is no standard for a 'binary' data file--the file's format is defined by the program that is using the data.

Re: ASCII to Binary
You can look at the man pages for the tr command. You can construct any "character sets" you wish and have tr convert bytes from one character set to another.
