Bad root disk

We just acquired a new rp4440. When I attempted to mirror the root disk I ran into some stale extent errors on /opt. Syslog reported errors on the root device. Now I am attempting to reinstall the OS to another root disk using the install/recovery CD's and the system is crashing pretty much right away following the message regarding relocation. Am I missing something? Do I need to unplug the f/c san devices I had added earlier?

Re: Bad root disk

It can't hurt. It may be the the SAN is causing an issue somewhere with the install.

I always like to install with nothing attached so I am sure I am seeing / installing to the correct disks.

Re: Bad root disk

It does not matter whether SAN devices are attached or not. I amm guessing, you are installing on local hard discs. You can install to one disc from scratch. Then mirror the root disc. If any LVs show stale extents, do lvsync on it to sync the mirrored disc with the root disc.

Re: Bad root disk

Hi Susan,

what disks do you have assigned as physical volumes to vg00?
Do you have Support Tools Manager present?
Check both disks in it (cstm for example).
What kind of errors syslog did report?

Re: Bad root disk

Thanks for all suggestions. The problem was due to a bad root disk followed by using the incorrect version of the install/recovery cd. I didn't realize this hardware needed a specific release date and grabbed an earlier one.
