Bar Code Font for Oracle apps
I have installed Oracle 8i database and oracle 11.5.1 Applications. The Apps need to be able to print bar code. We purchased a bar code font from Xerox and need to install it on HP/UX 11.0 O/S. Xerox is of no help. Oracle requires the bar code font on the Unix platform but cannot tell us how to install it. HP on-line support was also unable to help in installing the font.

Re: Bar Code Font for Oracle apps
If I were you I'd return the Xerox product, and work with your Oracle sales rep to get someone in who CAN help you. It's ridiculous that Xerox can't or won't help you with the installation of their own product. No wonder they're going down the tubes.

Re: Bar Code Font for Oracle apps
Perhaps Xerox was confused that HP-UX is not a PC. Fonts have a long history in the PC world but virtually no support in Unix. True, workstations can specify (albeit very cryptically) fonts for a graphics display but there is no connection between graphics screens and programs that create printed output. Storing a font file on HP-UX does nothing to enable special printing features.
From the printer's point of view, the appropriate data (either PCL or Postscript) must be sent to the printer, so what is missing is the middleware that can accept information and translate that to barcode patterns...nothing in HP-UX that will do that. As many have said before: it's a simple matter of programming.
