basic installation

I have a B class workstation with hpux 11i installed and service guard installed. Yes I know HP dont support this but Its the only spare bit of kit I can use to play with at the moment.

I wish to start simple and do what you can with only one system. My first thought is to configure the additional network card to take over in the event of the onboard NIC failing. could someone please give me some directions as where to start.

many thanks in advance
Liz

Re: basic installation

Hi Liz,

If you have a single workstation I would look at individual solutions, rather that clustering. You can use APA (Auto Port Aggregation) to have the NIC failover in this case. You can also additionally configure it to provide twice the badwidth here too. Check out the APA section here:

James.

Re: basic installation

HI Guys

thanks for the pointers the APA sounds interesting but I wish to learn about service guard. I also have another workstation arriving next week so will hopefully be able to build a real cluster. I also hear service guard as we know it is to be discontinued and replaced by a new product does anyone know about this.

cheers
Liz :-)

Re: basic installation

No - I understandService guard is here to stay for more time. So go ahead and configure the second node when it arrives. An interesting note abt single node is - the failing of the cmcld daemon does not affect the application running on the single node cluster - as there is no other node to take over (or corrupt the data in that situation).

Re: basic installation

The docs thread pointed to above will help you get started building your first single node cluster at least......, but from my personal experience going to the HP class on MC/SG is what really puts it into focus.

Just a thought,
