Re: Boot problem

hi,

you didn't mention which model of server you have. anyway, is the server coming to bch menu??

I had faced similar problem with a failed root hard disk. but if the server is not coming up till BCH menu, it could be a failed SCSI backplane too.

log a call with HP and get their support personnel diagonise the problem

with best wishes

Re: Boot problem

Hi,

Looks like your root disk is "missing/broken".

ALERT LEVEL: 6
Boot possible, pending failure or environmental problem with action required
(e.g., boot disk error rate above threshold, power failure, overtemp medium).

Power down your server, wait for a few minutes and try again to boot your server, watch the disks leds, if all disks have power.

Call your local HP Response center and log a hardware call.

Good luck,

Re: Boot problem

Hi,
Is your system overloaded by performance point of view.
You might be getting the Fault LED On and RED
just try to quit from the GSP by using co
and also use tc to reset the GSP and send a Transfer of Control which will do nothing but try to reboot the server.
Do you have a proper console ?
OR
Have u applied a patch or patch bundle recently ?
If yes then pls boot in single user mode and
try to remove the same.
Have addes a new hardware or the driver for the same ?
If yes then please remove the hardware and driver from the single user mode.
if any chance you have not done any of the above things and are allowed to boot in the single user or lvm maintainence mode pls see the syslog for details of the error also
mail for the root.

Re: Boot problem

HI there,
Just to add something:

Did you add any PCI card (Any additional I/O card) into your system just before?

If so try removing it and reboot the system.
If it work then fine, go ahead with further troubleshooting.

Hope that helps,
Regards,

Re: Boot problem

From the BCH menu, run the 'SEA' command to see what boot paths are available. If you interact with IPL/ISL you can't just type in 'bo p0'.
The command string is 'hpux ....'
If you still don't understand try this:

control B
press the return until you get the GSP> prompt.
RS
start the boot process again, interrupt the boot sequence and then run the 'SEA' command to see the boot paths that the system sees.
