Bootable thumb drive for Integrity

Is it possible to make a bootable thumbdrive to install HPUX?
If so, how and what app do I use?

Re: Bootable thumb drive for Integrity

Not really sure about this.

An Integrity can access an USB device like sticks and DVD drives.
I don't know why you want to do this, but you can try to "dd" anyhow the install DVD to the stick.

Hope this helps!

Re: Bootable thumb drive for Integrity

Here's why we need to try this...

1) The blade server has to boot to a USB DVD to install HPUX. Per HP our external DVD is not supported for the BL60p.

2) Ignite is not an option because this WILL be our Ignite server.

3) We currently do not have an ignite server or extra Integrity hardware to use as an ignite server.

Our VAR is going to order the supported HP USB DVD-ROM drive but when we'll get???? Who knows.

Thanks

Bootable support for USB must exist within the processor ROMs. I don't think any HP-UX hardware has any code for USB drives. New versions of HP-UX (not the hardware) have limited USB support. The code would be quite significant as it would be USB communcation as well as a handling a filesystem.

2) Ignite is not an option because this WILL be our Ignite server.

A big concern: how will you backup this Ignite server?

3) We currently do not have an ignite server or extra Integrity hardware to use as an ignite server.

Each server needs a disaster recovery plan regardless of purpose. Be sure you setup the blade server so you can restore it when the boot disk gets trashed. Be sure you get a writable DVD so you can create a bootable Ignite image for your server.

You may want to re-order the drive as a DVD-RW. Otherwise, you can create the boot image on your server as an ISO image, ftp it to a PC with a DVD writer and create the DVD in that manner.

Re: Bootable thumb drive for Integrity

Gene,

See if this help ?

The official supported DVD is the
PA851A - DVD + R/W Drive

The following DVD drives are not supported, but could work also:
PA849A - DVD Drive
PA850A - DVD Combo

Re: Bootable thumb drive for Integrity

Shalom,

Last I checked thumb drives or USB boot was not supported at all on Integrity.

This should not be an issue however because Ignite provides network boot.
