Re: Booting Error

Hi,

What is the version of your HPUX?

Try the below
If it is HP-UX 9.x:

ISL> hpux /hp-ux

HP-UX 10.x and above:

ISL> hpux /stand/vmunix

Re: Booting Error

It seems ISL is not able to read the kernel u may try booting from an alternate kernel

I am not sure what is the previous kernel name in 9.X

in 10.X it is vmunix.prev

Re: Booting Error

I think either the disk u are trying to boot is not your boot disk or It's boot area (LIF) got corrupted.
1. Confirm which is your boot device first
you can give "search" command at PDC prompt to see the potential boot devices and select the correct one.
2. If LIF is corrupted then go thr'
man mkboot
( You need to install LIF area again )

You need to know a lot to actually know how little you know

Re: Booting Error

sounds as though you may have lost your kernel file, /hp-ux, and this implies this is an old, unsupported release of HP-UX.

Yopu might like to try doing:
hpux ls *
and see if this gives you a listing of files at the / mount point.
you could also try to boot from the pre-10.x backup kernel:
hpux /SYSBCKUP

Do you know whsat version of HP-UX you have on hte system?

Re: Booting Error

There was no HP-UX version of what you are listing.
I suspect you have either version 3.x or 7.x of HP-UX.
Whichever, it is VERY old.
You may be in a state where you will need to re-install, and for this you will need the OS media, manuals, etc. and a good full backup.
