As far as I know we are not using those; does anyone know if there are unseen ramifications in removing SYSCOM?

Re: Can I remove vtdaemon?
I wouldn't bother removing it, just make sure that the vtdaemon isn't running. There is generally a vt start script under /sbin/init.d

Re: Can I remove vtdaemon?
yep, you can very probably remove it without problems. You can leave it on the system, and disable it in /etc/rc.config.d.
(the Bastion cookbook also mention to disable vtdaemon).
regards,
Thierry.

Solutionvt was/is an old remote login/execution scheme used long ago. I believe it was/is proprietary to HP & is purely a legacy thing.
Personally, I've *never* used vt or it's daemon & know of nobody who does. I think you're safe to stop it if it's running & remove it.
Rgds,
Jeff
